HOW TO HAVE A GAG-FREE VISIT

We want you to enjoy your visit to the dentist

      If you avoid going to the dentist because you gag during procedures here are some ideas to help deal with this problem:

Ask the staff to put salt on your tongue (not recommended if you are on a low sodium diet).

bullet

Ask for a topical numbing agent to be spayed in your mouth or placed on your gum tissue to numb the area.

bullet

Have your dentist talk to you about the treatment so you will know what is going to happen.

bullet

SEA-Bands.

bullet

Listen to music with headphones, close your eyes and enjoy the music while the procedures are being done.

bullet

Temporal tap

bullet

Place copalite on the tongue...copalite

bullet

Ask for staff to hold your hand and offer you support, comfort and reassurance.

bullet

Breath though your NOSE instead of your mouth (focus on your nose).

bullet

Focus on other body parts other than your mouth like your toes or try lifting your foot and holding it there during the procedure!

bullet

Gagging can be caused by fear, address your fear with your doctor and staff members in order to overcome it.

bullet

Try a Relief band.
